I Spy Jar

I found this on a website called Happy-Go-Lucky It is such a good idea I just had to share it. I think I will make them for church bags.

Supplies Needed:
•Plastic jar with lid
•Plastic Pellets
•20-30 small objects
•Self-Laminating Sheets
•Small piece of elastic - enough to stretch around the top of the jar
Directions:
•Gather your small objects: I went through all my junk drawers and art supplies to get random objects: paper clip, penny, dime, screw, buttons, stickers, letter beads, fishing worm, etc. Anything I could find that was small enough to fit in the jar.
•Take a picture of the objects or create a list of the objects: I placed the objects on my printer/copy machine and made a color copy of all the objects. You could also take a picture of your objects and print the photo. The list of objects would be perfect for older children.
•Make smaller cards of objects: I cut the copy of my objects into 4 sections so the cards would be smaller.
•Laminate the cards: I took two cards and put them back to back. Then I used the Self-Laminating sheets to laminate the cards - two cards per sheet.
•Place all the objects into the jar.
•Pour in plastic pellets.
•Glue the lid to the jar: I placed super glue around the inside of the lid and placed the lid on the jar.
•Attach cards to jar: I punched a hole in the cards and put elastic through the hole. I wanted it to stretch around the top of the jar and easily come off when Connor was playing with it.
Spin the jar and start searching for the items shown on the cards. Connor was so excited to look for the different items and he was just as excited to shake the jar around.

snowmen ornaments

The boys made these cute ornaments for Christmas. Here is the tutorial http://www.eighteen25.blogspot.com/

I ended up using wood squares, at Hobby Lobby they are 4 in a pack for 1 dollar. I know that the tutorial used canvas but they were a little more expensive. I think we ended up spending $2 total on making these. That was because I already had some paint. I just had to buy white paint and the wood squares. Just a cute idea if you want to try. The boys loved getting their hands messy.

generic vs. name brand

I am on a generic kick lately and I am trying to find generic brands that are either better or just as good as the name brand equivalent out there. Let me know if you find something. For example I found generic vanilla wafers at Walmart and I thought they were a little better than the name brand vanilla wafers, and I think they are about $1.50 less than the name brand, BONUS!

Beverly Lewis

So one day I just picked this book up off of the library shelf and thought I would give it a try. I liked it so much that I picked up another one of her books at the library this last week and haven't been able to put it down. They are super clean which is a bonus since I feel like there aren't a lot of those types of books out there. Anyways if you want a good, clean read, then pick up any one of her books.

Stir Fry Recipe

Super good stir fry!

1/2 c. Teriyaki sauce
6 TBS brown sugar
1-2 tsp garlic minced (depending on your tastes)
2 large chicken breasts diced
2 c. fresh green beans cut in half
2 large carrots cut into 2 inch strips
4 large mushrooms cut and diced
1 zucchini cut and diced

Marinade Chicken in teriyaki sauce, brown sugar and garlic for 10 minutes.
Pour chicken and marinade into large pan, cook until chicken is cooked through.
add green beans and carrots cook for 5 minutes, add zucchini for 2 minutes and then add mushrooms at end just for about a minute. Serve over rice.

My kids love this, they eat mostly the carrots and zucchini so sometimes I add a little more of those two things.
Enjoy

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

When I first saw this picture it looked like the turkey was walking with a cane, ha ha, creepy! Anyways just thought this was an unusual picture of a turkey. I am so thankful for this holiday, it really helps me to reflect on everything that is important in my life, (plus we get to eat ourselves silly). I just want my sisters (sister in laws included) to know how much I love and appreciate you all. I look up to all of you. You are such wonderful loving examples to me. I wish the world could be filled with more women like you all, because then maybe more people would understand my sense of humor. Ha ha. Seriously, I love you all have a Wonderful Thanksgiving!

Kanye West, BOO!

So I don't have a huge opinion on pop stars/ movie stars usually, unless they just completely make "donkey's" out of themselves. I am sad because I actually liked some of his music, now I don't want to listen to it because I think he is acting like an insensitive jerk. He is on my do not listen to list along with a few others, that I may or may not post in the near future. It's also sad because he is supposed to be role models for kids out there. So I say BOO, to him! Go here to see what I am talking about: http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/hiphopmediatraining/317955/kanye-west-says-taylor-swifts-2009-vma-win-was-disrespectful-claims-today-exploited-him/

Gorilla Snot Gel

Okay I know it sounds gross, but this is the best gel I have ever used on my boys hair. Right now it is only $2 at walmart. I put it in their hair in the morning and it holds all day, I love it! So if you've got boys who have unruly hair go and get this gel. (oh just so you know, it is clear and it smells like fruit.)

I like this one too.

No Ordinary Family. Also in it's first season. I thought that I wouldn't like this show at first just because it seemed a little like "The Incredibles," but I actually do like it. It's more of a clean family show which is refreshing. I don't feel like I have to change the channel when my kids are in the room.

Deon's Favorite Shows

The Defenders. This is the first season, but I think this show is cleaver and funny. Jim Bulushi has always been a favorite of mine. It's about two Las Vegas Lawyers who get stuck defending the bizarre and almost impossible cases. But they always seem to come out winning in the end. Which I love, because I love when the underdog wins.
Leverage, is Dillan and my favorite show. I give this show 2 thumbs up, mostly because I don't have to guess week to week what is going on. They have a separate case for every week so there is no catch up necessary. My favorite character(s) are Parker and Elliot.
Okay so this is just a classic. I could watch this everyday. Oh wait I did until we moved to NM, now we don't have cable. boo hoo!
Psych, of course. I think Catherine, or Elizabeth got me hooked on this show. SOOOOO Funny. I actually get some of their 80's references too. I know I'm old.

Beans

I have discovered a new obsession. Beans. As in, replacing butter and oil with Beans. I added a roll recipe below that uses them. They are so amazing because you get protein and fiber without the fat. Amazing right!? I have used them in sugar cookies (1/2 butter, 1/2 beans) they were dang good. I also made Chex Muddy Buddies...not so good. Actually they were good the first hour and then they started getting really stale. I don't know why. I made ginger cookies with half and half butter and they were pretty good too. I think I have made some other things too. If you make anything, let me know how it turns out.

Classic Dinner Roll Knots with a Twist...Get it?

My sister in law, Jennifer gave me this recipe a few years back and I have never gotten around to trying it until now. I loved it either way (as in the original or my new version). Especially warm with honey butter...actually, all I know is warm since they were gone before they had a chance to get cold. Literally. So, you'll have to let me know how they taste after they have been stored.

Dinner Roll Knots (Original):

4 1/2 C. Flour
1/4 C. Sugar
2 Tbsp. Yeast
1 1/2 tsp salt
1 1/4 Warm milk (about a minute in the microwave does it perfectly)
1/2 C. Butter or margarine
2 Large Eggs
Cooking Spray
Poppy Seed or Sesame Seeds (optional)

Combine one Cup Flour, sugar, UNDISSOLVED yeast, and salt in a large mixing bowl. (I don't like to put yeast right on salt since it can kill it, so I mix the other 3 ingredients first before I put in the yeast. Add milk and butter; beat 2 minutes at medium speed with electric mixer (or in kitchenaid type thing if you have it); scraping bowl occassionally. Add one egg and one cup of flour; beat at medium speed for 2 minutes. Gradually add enough remaining flour to form soft dough that pulls away from the sides of the bowl while mixing for three more minutes. Spray top of dough with cooking spray and cover with plastic wrap (Or I just put a clean kitchen towel over the top if it has plenty of room to rise.) and let rest for 10 minutes. {For later use, dough may be refridgerated up to 24 hours.} Remove dough from bowl. Punch down dough and divide into 24 equal pieces. (For those Math-challenged: Cut it into 3 pieces and then each of those into 4 and each of those in half.) Roll each piece into a 9 inch rope. Tie loose knots in center of each rope. Place on sprayed cookie sheet. Spray top of rolls with cooking spray and cover with plastic wrap. Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Let rise in a warm, draft free place until doubled in size, about 20-40 minutes. Beat remaining egg; brush on rolls. If desired, sprinkle with poppy or sesame seeds. Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Remove and allow to cool on a wire rack.

My Healthier Version:
The only difference I madeto the recipe is that I replaced the butter with white beans (See instructions below.) and the white flour with wheat flour. Okay, I actually used all wheat except for one cup of white. Just remember to put them in an airtight container after cooled so they don't dry out.

White Beans Puree:
Put one can of Great Northern White Beans in the blender with a few Tbsp. of reduced fat sour cream and a little bit of water. Puree. It should be the consistency of runny peanut butter. If it is too thick add a little more water. It can replace butter cup for cup in the recipe.

Honey Butter:
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 cup confectioners' sugar
1/2 cup honey
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Combine and beat until lightly fluffy.

If you have any questions let me know. I will add a picture later. Enjoy!

Slow Down!

Okay so some advice to all you moms out there. SLOW DOWN! Guess what? the dishes, laundry and toys will still find there way back to the sink, and floor tomorrow. Our kids are only small for a short while. I just started to realize this when my middle child turned 3. I feel like all day I rush, rush, rush to get everything accomplished all the while yelling at my kids to sit down, calm down, stop talking etc... Then when they are finally in bed, fast asleep I go to kiss their heads one more time and realize that I should have slowed down, I should have taken more time to listen to their thoughts, played with them, or even taught them something. We always hear the older generation say, "They grow up so fast," I think I may be catching onto what they're saying. So my goal is to once a day (because let's be realistic here) slow down and actually communicate with my children.
If you want to make a goal with me that would be great, I need a little motivation.

button game

Okay, so the other day I was trying to come up with something different for my boys to do. They love getting all of my buttons out and spreading them all over the floor, So I decided to make a game out of it. They first separated the buttons into colors and then they started making sharks, dinosaurs, fish and octopus. They had a blast and it kept them busy for about an hour. We then did patterns with the buttons. They both had tons of fun and they learned something at the same time. So if you have a zillion buttons sitting around you may be able to do this activity with your kids.

peanuts to top
mandarin oranges to top

toss noodles and chicken together throw over spinach and top with craisins, peanuts and mandarin oranges. Yum Yum!

stop light idea

I am sure everyone who has kids in school already knows about this, but I thought it was cute. The teacher has a paper stop light at the front of the class with green, yellow, and red. She then has a little close pin with the childs name on it clipped onto the side of the green light. If your child stays on green (which is good) she/he gets a skittle or a small treat at the end of the day. If they stay on green the whole week then he/she gets to pick a prize from the treasure chest. Conner does this at school and it seems to keep him on track. He has only been on yellow once, which quite frankly I am a little surprised, witnessing his attitude at home. Anyways just thought it was a cute idea to share.

Reveal Product Review

I found a product today that I just felt I needed to share. Even if it's just with Deon and Sarah since I think we are the only ones who ever get on here. I got the new Rubbermaid Reveal mop today. It was a costly $25, which for me was really hard to justify, but then I thought of my floors that get mopped once every two-three months and I thought it was time to break down and get a mop that I would actually use. I LOVE it. It is so simple to use. And the best part is, it has a removable micro-fiber cloth that you can throw in the wash. It has a spray bottle attached so you just pull the trigger on the handle and it sprays the cleaner. Plus, you can use whatever cleaner you want so you don't have to buy special cleaner. I prefer the Orange scented Pine-Sol. (Or the Orange Mr. Clean is the former is not available.) It uses a fraction of the amount that you would use if you made a whole mop bucket of cleaner. Plus, you can just leave the extra in the bottle and use it next time so there is no waste. You can buy extra bottles (see below) if you want to keep more than one cleaner at a time. (For instance, if you have wood floors and want to keep a vinegar/water cleaner and a pine-sol cleaner for your tile.) Plus, it is much cleaner since you are using a new spray of cleaner evey few feet, not sticking it back in a dirty bucket. PLUS, I know, there are a lot of pluses, it is so light and easy to take up the stairs so I actually mop my upstairs bathrooms. (I dreaded carrying a mop bucket full of water up the stairs, but now, no need.) The pad just velcros on so it is really easy to put on and take off. You can buy replacement pads if you need to and they are only about $5 which is about the same as a regular mop head, but it won't need to be replaced as often. So, I guess what I am saying is, it is worth the $25. Oh, and it swivels to get into tight places.

Haircutting

My friend Jessica had a good idea for cutting boys hair: I have an idea because of our recent haircutting experience. For a boy, let him pretend shave with daddy's electric shaver with the cap on (dad holding it) and then when it's time for hair, let them hold the clippers while on, feeling the buzz, then feed them pretzels or their favorite non-sticky snack (cheeze sticks and hair don't mix- we used pretzel sticks) and let dad buzz the hair more easily with safe plastic measured settings on the clippers.

We should have done this the first time we cut Charlie's hair since he hated the buzzing a little much. He's finally getting used to it. Thanks Jess!

Macaroni and Cheese, I can't help myself!

So I was just thinking about this today. I love mac and Cheese, but not just any mac and cheese, Kraft Mac and Cheese. I refuse to eat the regular Kraft Mac and Cheese it has to be in the form of spirals or cartoon shapes, it just tastes better that way. So that is my thought for the day, Oh and that's probably why I am not loosing any weight. Ha ha.

Bear Check-up

Aurora was asked to take a Teddy Bear/Stuffed Animal to preschool today. I thought they were going to do a teddy bear picnic, but they actually did a whole day of bear related activities. One of my favorites is that they did a Bear Check up. Then they had a little piece of paper that they wrote all the "stats" on. It said:
BEAR CHECK-UP
My Bear Went to the doctor today and this is what we found out about him.
Weight ____________
Height ____________
Age________________
Does your bear have a fever? _________________
What color is your bear? _____________________
What is your Bears name? ______________________

Then they got to weigh, measure and observe their animals. Aurora actually took her giraffe who according to the piece of paper is named Moap. I have no idea where she go that from.

Primary Program

My ward had their Primary Program yesterday and they had a good idea I thought I would share. The music leader stood in the back of the chapel on a big box so all the kids would see her. Then next to her was a woman holding a helium mylar balloon on a string. The louder the kids sang, the higher the balloon went up. It also kept the kids attention. I just thought it was smart. Unrelated to the balloon, afterwards the kids all got kazoos from the primary presidency for doing such a good job. Which usually I would think, Crazy, right? But they loved it! So if you are looking for a cheap but totally fun prize for good behavior, I would get your kids a kazoo.

Coloring pages

My boys have really been into coloring lately. I decided to let them each print out 5 coloring pages a day off of the computer. If you go to google and type in, "kids coloring pages free," it will bring up literally hundreds of coloring pages to color. You can also specify search. My kids are really into spiderman, spongebob, sharks and dinosaurs. This activity has kept my kids busy for HOURS! Love it.
They have even started coloring princess pictures for their aunts. So don't be surprised if you get a bunch of princess pictures in the mail.

Working Out!

okay so I have officially started working out again. I have also stopped eating sugar during the week. I think not eating sugar is harder than working out. So if anyone would like to join me in not eating sugar, I could really use some motivation. I still eat sugar on the weekends, but eventually I would like to go without sugar all together. Let me know if you are up for it and we can have some sort of bet going.

Bit of Advice

Jemma stuck her earring up her nose the other day. On the way to the doctor (because it was so far up I couldn't get it out with tweezers) she sneezed and by the time we got into see the doctor it was practically out by itself. So note to self: Next time one of my kids stuffs something up their nose. Give them some pepper before spending $15 and 2 hours at the doctor. :)

Warning

Today at the pool, Aurora was in the Lilly's "boat", which is one of those baby innertubes with the leg holes. But because she was top heavy (meaning, taller than a baby) she flipped over and couldn't get back up because she was stuck in it. I was right there and helped flip her back over. But I learned a lesson. Those are meant only for babies with low center of gravity. Most people probably already knew this, but I thought I would put it out there just in case you are thinking of letting your older child borrow your younger babies pool floatation device.

More reasons why I love being a mom

1. I love when my kids learn a new thing and they share it with me.
2. I love when my kids want to snuggle with me.
3. I love when they won't go run errands with dad unless I get a kiss and a hug first

Reasons I do not like being a mom

1. I have to repeat myself a million times every day.

3. I am a waitress and maid all day long.
4. I feel like I am a jungle gym
5. I don't sleep a whole night through.....EVER!

Here's something I came across on the BYU website today. Pretty awesome, huh? Found here.

New research also shows loving siblings promote good deeds more than loving parents

Something about having a sister – even a little sister – makes 10- to 14-year-olds a bit less likely to feel down in the dumps.

That’s one of several intriguing findings from a new study on the impact siblings have on one another. Brigham Young University professor Laura Padilla-Walker is the lead author on the research, which also sorts out the influence of siblings and the influence of parents within families.

“Even after you account for parents’ influence, siblings do matter in unique ways,” said Padilla-Walker, who teaches in BYU’s School of Family Life. “They give kids something that parents don’t.”

Padilla-Walker’s research stems from BYU’s Flourishing Families Project and will appear in the August issue of the Journal of Family Psychology. The study included 395 families with more than one child, at least one of whom was an adolescent between 10 and 14 years old. The researchers gathered a wealth of information about each family’s dynamic, then followed up one year later. Statistical analyses showed that having a sister protected adolescents from feeling lonely, unloved, guilty, self-conscious and fearful. It didn’t matter whether the sister was younger or older, or how far apart the siblings were agewise.

Brothers mattered, too. The study found that having a loving sibling of either gender promoted good deeds, such as helping a neighbor or watching out for other kids at school. In fact, loving siblings fostered charitable attitudes more than loving parents did. The relationship between sibling affection and good deeds was twice as strong as that between parenting and good deeds.

“For parents of younger kids, the message is to encourage sibling affection,” said Padilla-Walker. “Once they get to adolescence, it’s going to be a big protective factor.”

Many parents justifiably worry about the seemingly endless fighting between siblings. The study found hostility was indeed associated with greater risk of delinquency. Yet Padilla-Walker also sees a silver lining in the data: The fights give children a chance to learn how to make up and to regain control of their emotions, skills that come in handy down the road.

“An absence of affection seems to be a bigger problem than high levels of conflict,” Padilla-Walker said.
BYU professor James Harper and BYU graduate Alex Jensen are co-authors on the new study. Jensen, now a Ph.D. candidate at Purdue, also co-authored the 2009 study showing a link between video games and poor relationships.

About the Flourishing Families Project
The Flourishing Families Project is a longitudinal, multi-informant, multi-method look at the inner-family life of families with an adolescent child. The project began in 2007 and to date includes four waves of data (including questionnaire and video data) on nearly 700 families from two locations. The project involves dozens of BYU students every year in data collection and provides a unique opportunity for undergraduate student involvement, which will continue next year as the project seeks to follow the families for a fifth year. Scholarly articles by Flourishing Families researchers have been published in peer-reviewed journals such as the Journal of Family Psychology, Journal of Early Adolescence, Journal of Research on Adolescence, and Aggressive Behavior.

Painting

So I was inspired by Deon's post to share this. Spencer loves to paint- he wants to do it everyday! My favorite painting is when we fill up a bucket with water and paint the water on the sidewalk with big paintbrushes. We found a package of 3 huge ones (like you use to paint your house) for about $5 at Walmart. This is also a favorite of any neighbors that come to visit- we had to buy extra brushes for all the kids at the school.
Spencer looks so little in these pictures, they were taken about 1 year ago.

great sloppy joe recipe

Okay so I decided to make sloppy joes tonight for dinner and after I was done cooking the meat I realized that I didn't have my sloppy joe prepackaged mix. I then found this recipe on line and I liked it a lot better than the mix. My boys also loved it, they each ate a whole sloppy joe! The other thing I like about this recipe, is that all the ingredients are probably already in your cupboard.

Sloppy Joe Dinner

1 lb. lean ground beef
1/4 c. chopped onion
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp prepared yellow mustard
3/4 c. ketchup
3 tsp brown sugar
salt to taste
ground black pepper to taste

brown meat and onions, drain off any liquids
stir in garlic powder, mustard, ketchup, and brown sugar; mix thoroughly, simmer for 30 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.

Some of my kids favorite toys

Scotty loves anything that has to do with action figures. He has at least one action figure in his pocket at all times. He usually likes the minature ones (warning they do get lost). He also likes the minatures toy story action figures. Scotty is really good at pretending so he doesn't need toys that make noise.
These are knex. Conner was introduced to these by his buddy Ben Baker. He loves them, but they do contain a lot of small parts, so beware if you have kids who put things in their mouths. We went to target the other day and got a good size set of these for $8. It was a good set to start out with, with see how many pieces are missing in a month.
Trio Blocks are my kids favorite! I think Kelsey's kids love these too. We bought a boy set of trio blocks for $29 (they are big sets, about 75-90 pieces in the box. Then the other day at target they had a girl set on sale for $14! My kids don't care if they are pink and purple as long as they can still build guns out of them. I like these because they are easy for any age to put together. Conner likes to build dinosaurs, bugs, guns and buildings out of these. Scotty likes to build houses for his action figures.

The Leap Frog Tag pen is great for car rides. This is a little more expensive about $50 for the pen, it comes with a few books. I got on ebay and bought 6 books for $20 so I saved a few bucks that way. This is probably one of the best investments I have ever made for car trips. Not only does it help your kids read and learn letters but it also has games and stories on it.

So those are just a few of my kids favorite things.

blessed.

Being a mom, I'm sure, is great. But being an aunt? The BEST.

I wanted to tell my sisters how blessed I feel to be an aunt to their children. I got to take two of my nephews and a niece to the movies last night. Then we went to the dollar store and each picked something out. They talked to me about Phineas and Ferb (my favorite TV show) and who Hayden should marry because, according to Brianna, "They'd grow up and make a lovely couple." I also got a phone call from another nephew informing me of a new bed at his house and lots of paintings he made for me. "Are we gonna play on the swings?" "Umm, yes!"

And that was just yesterday. I get eternity to be their aunt. Eternity is gonna rock.

I love my nieces and nephews. Being an aunt is the coolest thing in the world. Or at least, the coolest thing I know of.

Show Review

I have been watching this tv series on Netflix called "Monarch of the Glen." It is set in Scotland, present day. It is about a son who comes home to find out the family home (a castle plus the village) is in financial trouble. It has been pretty fun to watch. And except for a few "cheeky" comments, it is clean. I am on the 6th season, but it doesn't come on instant netflix so I have to order it. I love the Scotland setting. It isn't really fast paced, but it is fun to watch. It is one of those shows that sucks you in. The first episode is a bit slow, but after that, it moves a bit faster.

"Kight and Day" Movie Review

I wasn't exactly thrilled to be going to see this movie in the first place, but I did because my friend Kelse wanted to see it, and I wanted to get out. I was pleasantly surprised. It was... different to say the least, which was one of the reasons it was surprising. I am not a huge fan of either of the main actors, but the fact that Tom Cruise was acting like such a goof-ball the whole time made it a little bit better. Devon was convinced that it wasn't a chick-flick, but it was. Oh, it so definitely was. Cameron Diaz's character also says the F-word in a completely inappropriate place. It would actually be inappropriate anywhere, but it just sounded stupid...er than it usually does. If you like whimsical, completely unrealistic, romantic comedies, then you should see this. If you embarrass easily, I'd steer clear. It is pretty funny though. I wouldn't mind seeing it again... on dvd.
Yes, these shirts are awesome. And there are a bunch of different colors. I personally own blue, green, pink, gray and 2 of the white. Next up: black.

Favorite shirts.

Elizabeth showed me these t-shirts at Target. They are made by Mossimo. They are only $8 a piece and so comfortable. I love them because I can wear them by themselves without layering which is nice in the Texas heat. Plus I like that the sleeves are longer than the shade shirts and the necks are higher. I am no fashionista. But I thought I'd share this tid-bit of borrowed wisdom. I tried to find a picture but couldn't.

Movies Deon has recently seen and liked.

Okay so I really liked all of these movies. First, "When in Rome was a cute chick flick and I actually really liked Kristen Bell and Josh Duhamel. Neither one bugged me, at all!
We also took the boys to see "Despicable Me," this weekend. It was hilarious. My boys sat through the whole movie. I am not a big animated movie person but this one got 2 thumbs up from me.
Then lastly I think my new favorite movie is, "Leap Year." It's so nice to find a clean movie. I really liked the whole plot line and I thought the male actor was so funny, and cute, wink wink!
Anyways if you are looking for a few good movies to watch, those are my picks for the month.
(sorry if my thoughts seem random and spacey, I'm working off of hardly any sleep.)

Catherine's Preferred Manuscripts.

Of course I loved Twilight, but that seems like a ridiculous suggestion, since I know we have all read them, and everyone has heard of them. Ahem,
I would also suggest the Harry Potter series, but they are a little bit younger, though most of my favorite books are, so bear with me. I am currently trying to get into some more adult books. Not "adult" books, but older than teen books. Ya know.

How do you un-underline stuff. This is annoying. Anyway, I also liked "The Chronicles of Narnia", books. My favorite was "The Horse and His Boy". Oddly enough, it is my favorite, though it has a talking horse in it. I guess most of these books do, which makes it all odd because if you know me, I usually hate books with talking animals. In fact sometimes I don't even like the people to talk. Har har.

Here's where the best books come in. I love "The Squire's Tale" books. They are all extremely funny and witty. I love them. It's kind of like when you daydream as a kid and you get to go on these adventures, and you get to make camp in the woods. And of course, just a touch of magic. These are such good books. My favorite is "The Savage Damsel and the Dwarf". I think there are like 7 or 8 books out. Start from the beginning.
And here is the piece of resistance. Har har. "Ella Enchanted". Best book ever. I loved this book so much. I've read it several times. I read the entire thing overnight once. Started it one night, stayed up late, woke up the next morning and finished it. It wasn't even the first time I read it either. It is such a cute story, with characters that you either hate, or love, but don't worry, everything turns out for the best.
Well those are my favorite books. There is actually one more book that I absolutely loved, unfortunately I only read it once, and then returned it to the library, where my brain forgot the name forever. I will try to find it again and maybe someday I will.

One more thing, we need to write who is posting at the end of each post. This could get confusing.

Kelsey's Favorite Books

Okay, so I'm a little late in the game. My favorite books are:
The Blue Castle by L.M. Montgomery- The front cover looks like a romance novel, but it is by the author of the Anne of Green Gables books, so you know it is completely appropriate. I love it because it is a happy, fairytale tyope book, but realisitic. It isn't a thriller, but it is such a good story that you don't miss all the excitment of the Twilight Books.

Which brings me to my next favorite:
I have to admit that the Twiligh books are so fun to read.

I also love the Hunger Games series. The third book is supposed to some out in a month! They are a little gory, but really exciting. If you liked the Twilight books, you'll like these.

I also love Tuesdays With Morrie if you are looking for a deeper read. I love reading it with a highlighter because there are so many life lessons that he consolidates down to a few sentences. It is really insightful and makes you realize the blessings you have in your life.

I love Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice because it is a classic and I love the complex relationships. But really, I just can't helping craving a good love story with a happy ending. Especially with so few out there in reality.

Nothing too deep. But all fun.

Help! Easy lunch ideas

Okay so I am always looking for easy lunch ideas for my kids, since they will not eat sandwiches (I know crazy right?). There are the obvious things such as macaroni and Cheese, Chicken nuggets, soup etc. but I am in desperate need of some new ideas for snacks and easy lunches.
We did make small pizza's out of bagels and mini pepperoni's but I really need some new ideas.

Elizabeth's Favorite Books

The Book of Mormon. The Bible. The Doctrine and Covenants. And, of course, The Pearl of Great Price.

I win.

Ha ha ha, I'm so funny. But seriously now, those are great books. But I see that we're talking about novels, most likely fiction. So here you go.

My favorite books are:

Peter Pan -- As much as I like the play and movies that have been made from this, the book is 100 times better. J.M. Barrie tells a fantastical story while making the reader think about his or her own life and mind and imagination. It's a short book and not hard to read, which is another reason why it's amazing how it makes me ponder so much. Plus, it's funny. Humor is always appreciated. (And while we on the topic of Peter Pan, the series written by Ridley Pearson and Dave Barry called, "Peter and the Starcatchers" is awesome. And again, hilarious.)

Little Women -- If I lived 150 years ago, I would be Jo. Living in 2010, I want to be Jo (especially the getting to marry Fredric part). The book is a great story, to be sure, but it offers more than just a good plot; there are words of wisdom sprinkled throughout, and you get attached to the characters like you do your own sisters (even Amy, who's basically a snob the whole time).

Pride & Prejudice [& Zombies] -- The original Jane Austen novel is really my favorite because without reading and loving it first, I wouldn't have enjoyed the Zombies edition nearly as much. The original (and the zombies one too) is witty and complex without being overbearing. There are slow parts, as is true with most books, but it makes the good parts that much better.

All three of these novels have also been made into good movies. So if you're more into watching then reading, there ya go.

Deon's Favorite Book Picks

These books are my ultimate favorites, but I love to read so I have many books I really enjoy. Some other notable books to mention are, "Children of the Promise," by Dean Hughes, All of the Jane Austen books I have enjoyed, and I recently read "To Kill A Mockingbird," again. Also My sister in law Sara gave me a book called, "Goose Girl," that I really enjoyed.

Great books

So I guess I will be the first to post, mostly because I love to tell people about good books. I work at the library now- so I actually have time to read- and access to a lot of books. I really enjoy the books by Shannon Hale. She won a Newberry for her book "Princess Academy," but actually my favorites are the Books of Bayern, a series that begins with "Goose Girl." They are very good. I also really like Gail Carson Levine. She writes fairy tale stories as well. Her most famous is Ella Enchanted, but I enjoy her others as well. I just ordered some fairy books by her for younger readers- I will let you know how they are.
I am excited about this blog. I hope you all post lots of great ideas!
By the way, Devon wants me to mention his new favorite movie "Inception." It was excellent! I thought the plot would be thin- but it was amazing. The special effects were really cool too. You should all go see it. I think Thomas saw it 3 times opening weekend. Below is a link to the trailer, although I don't think it does it justice.

Here we are!

Okay so my sisters and I have decided to start a blog. Okay I decided and forced them to do it. I absolutely love my sisters and we all have some creative level to us, so I think this blog will be fun to read. I thought that with this blog we would be able to share ideas on good (clean) books to read, good movies to watch, inventive ideas on how to entertain our children, and maybe just somewhere to talk about our accomplishments, (you know, other than our wonderful children and handsome husbands.)
